Importing

Where to find your transaction history

Most brokers offer two exports that look interchangeable. Only one of them carries what you paid.

The rule, whatever your broker

Export transactions, not positions. A positions export is a snapshot of what you hold today. It imports, and it looks right, and there is no purchase history behind it, so you get no cost basis, no yield on cost, and no record of the dividends you have already collected.

Then set the date range back before your first trade. Most brokers default it to about a month, which produces a file holding recent sales and none of the purchases behind them. Nothing errors. The numbers are simply wrong.

Using a broker that is not listed? Upload its CSV anyway. We read the file, work out which broker and which report it is, and ask you to match the columns only if we cannot tell.
